Chronic Kidney Disease Care

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive condition characterized by a gradual decline in kidney function which affects about 1 out of 7 adults in the United States. Diabetes and hypertension are the two common causes of CKD. In the early stages of CKD (stages 1-3) the kidneys can remove waste (e.g., creatinine, urea) from the blood but in later stages (stages 4 and 5) the kidneys have to work harder to remove waste from the blood and may even stop working. Most people living with CKD are unaware they have the condition because CKD is typically ‘silent’ till it has reached the advanced stages.
